My First 5K!
By Barbara Woods, Hunger Run 2016 Participant
Last year, I was fresh out of the Union Gospel Mission Center for Women and Children and eager to find positive activities to dive into with the warm weather approaching. I signed up for the Hunger Run simply because I wanted something to keep me active and because of the programs it benefits.
Finishing my first ever 5K was a really great feeling because not even a year before I had thought people who run for fun were crazy, and I would never be able to do that.
I went on to run two more 5Ks with my 8-year-old son and another smaller race with both of my children.
This year, the Hunger Run is going to be my first ever 10K run, and I have even signed up for my first 12k (Bloomsday) with my son.
