Safeway/Albertsons – Great Partners in the Fight Against Hunger
By Tairsa Worman
Last year more than 100 Safeway Albertsons employees and their families participated in the event and are looking forward to running and volunteering again this year.
At Safeway Albertsons, we know how important it is to help local food banks stock their shelves throughout the year, not just during the holidays. Safeway Albertsons contributes to the communities we serve year round by participating in Fresh Rescue through Food Lifeline, supporting Second Harvest and with our own Safeway Albertsons hunger program – Hunger Is.
Safeway Albertsons is the largest contributor in the fight against hunger throughout the state of Washington. This year our company has awarded over $800,000 in hunger grants, including a $50,000 grant to Second Harvest. Safeway Albertsons supports nutrition education in 70 low-income schools throughout the state, as well as nutrition classes and cooking lessons for parents who want to learn how to cook healthy on a budget.
In addition, in partnership with the State Department of Health, Safeway Albertsons is working on a comprehensive statewide incentive program to increase the consumption of produce by SNAP clients.
